Pro Bono Spotlight ~ Lawyers Going the Extra Mile
Julie Emede
PRO BONO SPOTLIGHT
2009 Pro Bono Services Award: Julie Emede |
Julie
Emede received the Association’s 2009 Annual Pro Bono
Service Award at the
Association’s annual Judges’ Night dinner on November 12,
2009. Ms. Emede’s leadership in encouraging attorneys to
engage in more pro bono service was singularly instrumental
in putting in place the SCCBA Pro Bono Initiative: Helping
Lawyers Help Others. This initiative was the driving force
behind the development and launch of the SCCBA award winning
website, Probonomatch.org that provides a place for legal
service agencies to post their pro bono volunteer needs and
for attorneys to search for pro bono opportunities that
match their interests and time constraints. These efforts
alone have resulted in thousands of additional hours of
legal services donated by attorneys to local legal service
agencies. Julie has a long history of giving to the
profession and the community as evidenced by her vitae
below. In addition, Ms. Emede was recently appointed to the
Superior Court of the County of Santa Clara by Governor
Schwarzenegger. She will become the Hon. Julie Emede on
February 18, 2010.
